TDK-Lambda introduces the ZWS-B series
printed circuit board type AC-DC power supplies

TDK-Lambda Corporation (President : Yoshiaki Hirota, Head Office : Nihonbashi, Chuoku, Tokyo), a group company of TDK Corporation, has developed the “ZWS-B” series printed circuit board type AC-DC power supplies. The ZWS-B series will have 7 models and order taking will commence on February 23.

■ Development background and concept

As we progress toward realization of low carbon society, need for smaller, lighter and higher efficiency power unit that works at lower input voltage and power consumption at unloaded conditions is increasing. Power supplies of printed circuit board type are expanding in application ranging from office machines to measurement control equipment requiring high reliability, to general purpose automatic equipment. In response to such market need, TDK-Lambda has developed the “ZWS-B” series featuring reduced internal losses and smaller size (up to 38% smaller as compared with existing models) by adopting a simple circuit design, without harmonic current suppression circuitry. ZWS10B and ZWS15B are small, light, high efficiency printed circuit board type AC-DC power supplies featuring wide input range and drastically reduced input power at unloaded conditions (about 90% less than existing models).

■ Product positioning

The “ZWS-B series” products are printed circuit board type AD-DC power supplies developed to succeed the “ZWS series” products. The ZWS-B series, together with the ZWS-BAF series that comes with harmonic current suppression circuitry, can meet a wide range of customer requirements. They achieved higher efficiency of up to 91% as a result of about 5% improvement at all loads over existing series. In addition, they also achieved a wider operating ambient temperature range that allows operation under harsh environment, excellent output derating, smaller size (maximum 38%) and lighter weight (maximum 62%), both as compared with existing models. Thus, they make contributions to customers' need for creating smaller products and offer powerful support for the development of energy saving products.

  • Harmonic current:
    Harmonic current means input current that contains harmonic that comes from a switching power supply or inverter. It is often generated in the AC to DC conversion process.
  • Output derating:
    Derating is the technique employed in power electronic devices wherein the devices are operated at less than their rated maximum power dissipation to avoid degradation of reliability of such devices or components used.
