TDK-Lambda introduces the Z+ series power suppliesfeaturing the world's highest power density(*1)
- ultra compact, high power density CVCC programmable power supplies -

TDK-Lambda Corporation (President : Yoshiaki Hirota, Head Office : Nihonbashi, Chuoku, Tokyo), a group company of TDK Corporation, has developed the Z+(plus) series ultra compact, CVCC programmable power supplies with the world's highest power density. The Z+ product family, consisting of 200W, 400W, 600W and 800W types, can meet a wide range of customer requirements. Order taking for 400W will commence on March 1. Other models will be available shortly after.

■ Development background and concept

While much attention is paid to new energy businesses, development of related technologies and production of new products is advancing at a rapid pace. In addition, currency exchange rate is changing rapidly and globalization of production resulting from expansion of markets in emerging countries is accelerating. Especially, needs for globally compatible CVCC programmable power supplies are mounting in development laboratories and production floors of power charge related products that are expected to grow. As general manufacturing equipment and machine tools need to be faster, more versatile and require less foot print, power supplies for them also need to be smaller and higher in integration.

■ Product positioning

With the introduction of the new Z+ series (200W - 800W) and the EVA series (2,400W) released simultaneously with the Z+ series, added to the existing Genesys series (750W - 5,000W), TDK-Lambda's CVCC programmable power supply product family now consists of 3 series of standard power supplies that can meet a wide range of customer needs from low to high power applications. The new Z+ series is a successor model to the existing ZUP series.

  • The world's highest power density(*1) (800W model: 0.39W/cm3)
  • Equipped with simulation function optimal for evaluation of solar power rechargeable system and devices
  • Equipped with function generator for evaluation of electronic components
  • Ultra compact 2U format bench top type. Rack mounting is also possible.
  • Low ripple noise design. Equipped with different interface ports as standard features. Meets various safety requirements of the world
  • Maximum 6 units can be connected in parallel using master-slave configuration

■ Major applications

Production and inspection, reliability and durability testing and aging processes for electronic components, burn-in process for semi conductors, experimental power supply, etc.

(*) The Z+ series products will be exhibited at the TDK-Lambda booth (booth number: W3-16) in the 4th International Rechargeable Battery Expo (February 29 (Wednesday) - March 2 (Friday) at Tokyo Big Sight) where technologies, components and materials for secondary and rechargeable batteries are gathered. Further information on the new products will be available there. We will respond to various needs of customers.

■ Glossary

  • CVCC programmable power supply:
    CVCC stands for Constant Voltage Constant Current and CVCC programmable power supply means a device that can automatically perform as either constant voltage power supply or constant current power supply within a preset range of voltage or current depending on the loading conditions.
  • Power density:
    Power density is the amount of power per unit volume. The higher the value, the higher space efficiency the power supply has when installed within an equipment. Space efficiency is one of important considerations for the selection of power supplies as market requirement for smaller equipment accelerates.
  • Ripple noise
    Ripple noise means small vibrations and noises that appear in the DC output of a power supply. It is used as an index to evaluate the performance of switching power supplies.
  • Master-Slave:
    It is a method to control multiple power supplies when connected in parallel. A power unit that is capable of both power conversion and power control (master unit) is connected with one or more power units that are capable of only power conversion (slave unit) in the manner that signals from the master unit controls the slave unit(s) thus they work as one power unit.
